Meråker Clarinet

The Meråker clarinet is a folk shepherd's clarinet with roots from the mountain village of Meråker in the old Nord-Trøndelag region. This simple yet distinctive woodwind instrument was used by shepherds and young people in Stordalen, and represents an important part of the Norwegian folk music tradition. After nearly disappearing in the early 1900s, the instrument experienced a renaissance in the 1950s, and has since been subject to renewal and modernisation.
